A local foundation announces a $100,000 renovation to the home of fallen Detective Wenjian Liu.
In January, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation received contributions from all over the world to pay the mortgages on the detective’s home, as well as his partner, Rafael Ramos’.
Both men were killed in the line of duty while on patrol together in December.
In honor of Liu’s 33rd birthday Tuesday, the foundation detailed plans for its next step—the renovation.
“We will put all new siding in. The type of siding that it is is called hearty-board. It’s the best that you could possibly get for insulation and for beauty, because they deserve the best. We will replace many of the windows in the house,” said Frank Siller of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
“Tunnels to Towers has demonstrated their commitment to our family by paying off our mortgage, but also to return and renovate our home for us. We are extremely grateful,” said Liu’s wife, Pei Xia Chen.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation was founded in the wake of 9/11 to honor and support service members who are injured or killed in the line of duty.
