WILMINGTON – The Wilmington High School Building Committee met at the Town Hall on Tuesday, June 24 to update the Wilmington School Committee on changes made to the project and updates on the 9/11 memorial.
Joanne Benton, recently retired superintendent of Wilmington Public Schools, said that Mark Marshall, who works for Dore and Whittier, designed two plaques for Wilmington High School, one with and one without the Board of Selectmen on the plaque. The Wilmington School Committee discussed making a few changes to the plaques.
The committee questioned whether or not the Massachusetts School Building Authority, or the MSBA, should be recognized equally as the residents of Wilmington on the plaque.
They also voted and decided that the plaque should read “Board of Selectmen” instead of “Wilmington Selectmen.” However, none of these have been finalized yet.
9/11 Memorial
Benton said a granite 9/11 memorial will be placed in the courtyard in front of the school with an explanation of the significance of the memorial written on the front.
So far, organizers received $9,000 in donations, according to Benton. She believes that $20,000 will cover all of the costs associated with constructing the memorial.
