The New Paltz fire and police departments have begun fundraising to create a 9/11 memorial at Fire Station 2 on North Putt Corners Road.

A piece of steel from the World Trade Center will be incorporated into the memorial. The steel will be joined with a stanchion from the north tower at a meditation area near a tree that now memorializes the event.
