A group of Boston Marathon runners met up with city firefighters Friday at the September 11th Museum in a show of solidarity between victims of terrorist attacks.
The gathering was held in the honor of two Boston firefighters who died in the line of duty last month.
The runners who participated said they hoped the event would help Boston runners feel like part of a larger support group.
“It is emotional,” said Lauren Lundy, a participant in One Run for Boston. “I mean, I picked this leg this year because terrorism happened in our own city years ago, so starting at the World Trade Center where that happened.”
“One, you’re not alone, where everyone kind of felt that blast, and you can see it every day, basically, in Boston and the kind of surrounding running communities,” said Danny Bent, the organizer of One Run for Boston.
The event was part of the One Run for Boston campaign, which is a cross-country relay from Santa Monica, Calif. to Boston.
It’s made stops at terrorist attack sites around the country.
The final leg will cross the Boston Marathon finish line two days before this year’s race and will include survivors of last year’s bombing.
