FORT GREENE – It was an emotional goodbye to a September 11th hero who succumbed to a Ground Zero-related illness.
A wake was held Sunday in Fort Greene, Brooklyn for retired EMT Francis Charles, who died last week.
Charles served with the New York City Fire Department for 24 years, before cancer linked to his work on the toxic pile at Ground Zero forced him to retire in 2010.
Charles was 68 years old, and leaves behind a wife, two children and two grandchildren.
