The unidentified remains had been kept at a site on E. 30th St., but were moved to the Medical Examiner’s Office on E. 26th St., angering some families who weren’t aware of the move until a City Council hearing held on Tuesday.
The city quietly relocated thousands of unidentified remains of 9/11 victims — angering families who were never told of the move, it was revealed Tuesday.
The 8,500 remains had been kept at a site on E. 30th St. but were moved to the Medical Examiner’s Office on E. 26th St. before Hurricane Sandy for safekeeping, officials told a City Council hearing. They will be placed in the 9/11 museum, set to open next year.
