Street co-named for 9/11 Firefighter James Lanza

54th Street and 31st Avenue in Woodside is now known as Jimmy Lanza Way, reports Anthony Medina in the Queens Chronicle.

Lanza served as a firefighter with El Barrio’s Bravest Ladder 43/Engine 53 for much of his 28-year career in the FDNY, including service in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. He died earlier this year of World Trade Center-related brain cancer at the age of 70.

A Vietnam veteran, Lanza was extremely active in charity work and community service.
