Rockland County Fire Chief’s Association old-timers’ awards night gives William V. Harris Award

Volunteer firefighters were honored on April 15, 2017 at the Rockland County Fire Chief’s Association’s Old-Timers Awards Night in Pomona, NY, writes John Kryger of the Rockland Times.

The William V. Harris Award was given to Dave Schnitzer, a former chief of the Blauvelt FD.

William V. “Bill” Harris was a former chief of the Pearl River Fire Dept. He also owned W. Harris & Son contracting company. He brought heavy equipment to the World Trade Center site after the September 11 terrorist attacks and spent nine months at the site during the recovery efforts. He suffered from site-related mercury poisoning, which he died of in September 2008. He was 57.
