Retired FDNY Capt. John Vigiano Sr., who lost sons on 9/11, dies at 79

The entire September 11th community is mourning the death of retired FDNY Captain and U.S. Marine John Vigiano, Sr., who has died of cancer at the age of 79. Captain Vigiano lost both his children, FF John Vigiano, Jr. and Detective Joseph Vigiano, in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Captain Vigiano was a legendary firefighter, who served NYC for 36 years, establishing a number of standards in the FDNY, reported Noah Goldberg and Joe Dziemianowicz for the New York Daily News. He was devoted to veterans’ causes and worked tirelessly for others.

Captain Vigiano contracted throat cancer in 1984.
