Ground Zero recovery worker from Queens targeted by immigration authorities for deportation

Carlos Humberto Cardona, 48, is facing deportation for an incident 30 years ago, report Edgar Sandoval and Andrew Keshner in the New York Daily News. Mr. Cardona is from Colombia and came here in 1986 at the age of 17 after his elder brothers, both police officers, were killed.

Mr. Cardona worked with Milro Construction, helping with clean-up work at the World Trade Center site. He has some health issues from his time at the site.

41,300 people, including Mr. Cardona were taken into custody during the first 100 days of the Trump administration. Cardona is fighting back with a Brooklyn federal lawsuit and a clemency bid.
