Activity shows terror groups and right-wing extremists were undeterred by COVID-19 pandemic

The 2020 Annex of Statistical Information has indicated that the number of terrorist attacks has increased 13% worldwide during the COVID-19 pandemic. Terrorist fatalities rose 12% during pandemic.

Jihadist groups claim that the pandemic is a punishment from God on the west, while right-wing extremists spread conspiracy theories. But both kinds of groups have continued to operate despite pandemic conditions, reports Mahmut Cengiz in an extensive article published by Homeland Security Today.

Cork victims of 9/11 Ruth Clifford McCourt and daughter Juliana remembered with tree planting

An oak tree has been planted and a plaque has been installed to remember Ruth Clifford McCourt and her four-year-old daughter Juliana, who were killed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, reports Elaine Murphy of The Cork.

The ceremony was part of the centenary of Soroptimist International Republic of Ireland.

Spurning demand by the Taliban, Biden moves to split $7 billion in frozen Afghan funds

The contested assets of the Afghan central bank may be split to fund Afghanistan humanitarian relief, and in  compensation for families of victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, reports Charlie Savage for the New York Times.

Taliban officials are demanding the money for themselves.
