Marine Lance Corporal Matias Ferreira lost both his legs in January, 2011 while serving in Afghanistan, by leaping off a rooftop onto a concealed IED. Now he is the only double-amputee police officer in the country, serving with the Suffolk County Police Department, which he joined in 2017.
He also runs, plays softball, recently married and had a baby.
