Design expert Spencer Bailey became interested in memorials by featuring in one – at age 3, he survived a plane crash that killed 112 people, one of whom was his mother. An image of his rescue became a memorial sculpture, The Spirit of Siouxland.
Now Bailey has written a book about the design of memorials, comparing memorials around the world, including the National September 11th Memorial in lower Manhattan.
