NYPD Detective Christopher Cranston, 48, who rushed to Ground Zero on September 11, then spent months on recovery effort, dies from 9/11-related cancer

Retired NYPD Det. Christopher Cranston, 48, of Brooklyn’s 60th and 62nd Precincts, died of World Trade Center-related cancer this weekend.

His widow Clare Cranston told Trevor Boyer  and John Annese of the New York Daily News that she called Senators Mike Lee and Rand Paul from her husband’s bedside to protest their amendments to S-546 Never Forget the Heroes Act, the bill they are trying to destroy.

Detective Cranston spent months on the World Trade Center site after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, as well as responding to the attacks on September 11 itself.

He was diagnosed with site-related colorectal cancer last year, which had already metastasized to his liver.

His family, including his five children, will bury him this week. Details of his wake and funeral can be found here.
