Bone marrow drive for FF Jimmy Martinez
June 14, 2015 @ 8:00 am - 2:00 pm
A bone marrow drive for FF Jimmy Martinez will take place on Sunday, June 14, 2015 from 8:00am to 2:00pm at Our Lady Queen of Peace R.C. Church in Staten Island.
Martinez, who responded to the terrorist attacks of 9/11 was diagnosed in 2013 with multiple myeloma from his time at the recovery. He is a 24-year veteran of the FDNY. His family has held more than 20 bone marrow drives, which have helped other people, but no match for Martinez has been found.
By registering for the national bone marrow registry at Sunday’s drive and taking a simple cheek swab, you can see if you are a potential match for Martinez or for someone else. The entire registration process takes less than five minutes.
If a match is established, the potential donor is told about donation options.
