9/11 Tribute Center programs are offered throughout the year. Lectures, educational workshops and support programs are available to unite family members who lost loved ones, survivors, Lower Manhattan residents, rescue and recovery workers and volunteers who assisted in the aftermath of 9/11. Mary Jo Myers, wife of Air Force General (ret.) Richard Myers former chairman of the Joints Chiefs of Staff, is the USS Somerset’s sponsor. Gen. James F. Amos, Marine Corps Commandant, will give the commissioning ceremony’s keynote address.
Captain Thomas L. Dearborn will be the commanding officer of the ship.
