9/11 Tribute Center programs are offered throughout the year. Lectures, educational workshops and support programs are available to unite family members who lost loved ones, survivors, Lower Manhattan residents, rescue and recovery workers and volunteers who assisted in the aftermath of 9/11. Thyroid cancer is one of the cancers proven to be caused by toxins at the World Trade Center site. The normal rate for men to get thyroid cancer is 4 per 100,000. The rate among recovery workers is many times that rate.
