The 2016 Law Enforcement Memorial Service will be held at 6:00pm on Friday, May 6, 2016 outside the Orange County Courthouse. The ceremony will last about an hour and will be followed by a reception in the Courthouse lobby.
The names of two local police officers – Crawford Sgt. Eric Meier and NYPD Officer Ronald Becker — will be added to the Orange County memorial. The service will also honor 28 members of the local law enforcement community who died in the line of duty.
Sgt. Meier, a 25-year veteran of his department, died on September 17, 2015 at the age of 51 while investigating a drug case.
Officer Becker was 54 when he died on August 19, 2012, from a 9/11-related illness. Becker was an officer with the NYPD for 21 years, based at the 42nd Precinct in the Bronx. He responded to the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and was involved in the recovery effort.
