National Stair Climb for Fallen Firefighters at Belmont Park
October 1, 2017 @ 8:30 am - 2:00 pm
On Sunday, October 1, 2017, the FDNY and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) will host the third Annual National Stair Climb for Fallen Firefighters at Belmont Park on Sunday, October 1, 2017. Gates open and on-site registration begins at 8:30am. Participants will climb the equivalent of 110 stories to symbolize the steps of the World Trade Center towers.
The goal is to have an active firefighter climb for each of the 343 firefighters lost in the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and all members lost since due to 9/11-related illnesses.
If you are interested in climbing to honor the memory of one of these members, please contact John Hemsley at 212-570-1693, ext. 312 or john.hemsley@fdny.nyc.gov.
The cost to participate is $35.00 in advance or $50.00 on the day of the event ($65.00 for climb and after-party). Proceeds will benefit the FDNY Counseling Services Unit (CSU) and the NFFF.
The stair climb is a family event and participants are encouraged to bring family and friends. An after-climb party and races will begin at 11:30am, featuring a BBQ buffet and unlimited draft beer and soda. There will also be bounce castles, pony rides and fun for the entire family. In addition, the New York Racing Association will raffle two 2018 Belmont Stakes Day reserved seats valued at $200 each, and will assign a minimum of five race names for the FDNY to use to honor their fallen.
Races on the day of the climb will be named to honor the following FDNY members – Deputy Commissioner William Feehan; Chief of Department Peter Ganci, Jr.; Assistant Chief Gerard Barbara; Assistant Chief Donald Burns; Deputy Chief Michael Fahy; FF William Tolley; FF Raymond Pfeifer; FF James Lanza; and EMT Yadira Arroyo.
