Funeral for Dr. Thomas Cahill, physicist who warned about air quality at World Trade Center site
May 24, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
Thomas Cahill died on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at the age of 82.
Thomas Cahill’s memorial Mass will begin at 11:00am on Friday, May 24, 2019 at St. James Catholic Church in Davis, California, with a reception to follow in the Parish Memorial Center.
A physicist, Dr. Cahill was one of the first people to warn the Environmental Protection Agency against the air at the site of the former World Trade Center, testifying before Congressional committee on behalf of recovery workers.
He spent his distinguished career working for clean air; but also tested spacecraft computers for radiation resistance and analyzed precious texts, such as the Gutenberg Bible and Dead Sea Scroll fragments, with a cyclotron.
In lieu of flowers, Tom’s family suggests donations to the UC Davis Foundation for support of the Cahill Riparian Preserve, Catholic Relief Services, the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, Loaves and Fishes/Maryhouse, Sacramento, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
