9/11 Tribute Center programs are offered throughout the year. Lectures, educational workshops and support programs are available to unite family members who lost loved ones, survivors, Lower Manhattan residents, rescue and recovery workers and volunteers who assisted in the aftermath of 9/11. Friends of Firefighters’ 5-K Memorial Run honoring FF Thomas Phelan

Friends of Firefighters will honor FDNY Firefighter Thomas “Tommy” Phelan at the Generosity Brooklyn 5-K Run/Walk on Sunday, April 29, 2018, in Prospect Park. Bib pick-up will begin at 7:30am with a run start time of 9:00am.
Before the run, bagels and light refreshments will be served to all runners.
Firefighter Tommy Phelan was a ferry captain who rescued people and delivered supplies to the site of the World Trade Center during and after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. He joined the FDNY shortly thereafter, working with E-55 and Marine 9 before his untimely death from World Trade Center-related cancer last month at age 45.
Registration for the run costs $25.00. Usually, all Generosity Brooklyn participants are required to raise at least $200.00 for the charity they are running for. In order to honor Tommy Phelan, race organizers agreed to waive this requirement. Funds raised at the event will go towards direct services to active and retired FDNY firefighters and their families. An additional $500 will establish a scholarship in Tommy’s name to SUNY Maritime College. To register, please click here.
After the race, all are invited to gather at Tommy’s favorite watering hole, Farrell’s, for a post-race party. Tommy Phelan t-shirts will be sold at the event.
