Artist as Witness: The 9/11 Responders a collection of sketches of the recovery operation at the World Trade Center after the terrorist attacks, can be seen at the New York City Police Museum’s temporary location through Saturday, October 25, 2014.
Artist Aggie Kenny visited the World Trade Center site in the spring of 2002 and was permitted to draw the police officers, DSNY employees, firefighters, operating engineers, steel burners, ironworkers, military personnel, and others who worked around the clock to bring remains home and to remove the debris from the Towers. Sketches of the Staten Island sifting operation at Fresh Kills Landfill are also included.
The exhibit can be seen at the NYC Police Museum’s temporary location at 45 Wall Street. The original museum is being rebuilt after it was nearly destroyed by Hurricane Sandy.
