Secret Smiles was founded in New York in 1998 by three friends. One of them, Kristy Irvine Ryan, was killed at the age of 30 while working in the World Trade Center as a Vice President of Sandler O’Neill. Her sister founded a branch of Secret Smiles in Dayton, where Kristy went to college, to honor her and to continue her work for disadvantaged children.
