Retired Port Authority Police Detective Matthew T. Besheer died on November 29, 2022 at the age of 71. Detective Besheer spent 37 years in law enforcement at state, local, and federal levels.
During his career, Detective Besheer served on the FBI-NYPD Terrorist Task Force that apprehended the 1993 World Trade Center bombers. In 1997, he was awarded the Attorney General’s Award, a great honor.
Besheer’s detective work was showcased on the History Channel documentary Road to 9/11, Nightline, and in the book, The Hunt for KSM.
Detective Besheer retired from the PAPD in 2000, moved to Florida and joined the Punta Gorda Police Dept., but returned to NYC on September 11, 2001 to assist at the site of the World Trade Center.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Detective Besheer on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 in North Port and another one in central New Jersey on Friday, December 16, 2022.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider making a donation in Detective Besheer’s honor to either the National D-Day Foundation or Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
