John Jay Center on Terrorism Seminar – Plagues and Peoples, Disease and Violence

Please join John Jay College’s Center on Terrorism for their final seminar of the spring 2021 semester. The speaker will be Charles B. Strozier, the founding director of the Center on Terrorism. He will speak on Plagues and Peoples, Disease and Violence. The seminar will be held on Zoom on Friday, May 7, 2021 at 3:00pm ET.
The presentation will draw upon Strozier’s latest research, including his recent article with Robert Jay Lifton, published in the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists in March this year.

Charles B. Strozier is a Professor Emeritus of History, John Jay College and the Graduate Center, City University of New York. We was founding Director of the Center on Terrorism at John Jay and is a practicing psychoanalyst. He was a finalist for the Lincoln Prize of the Gilder Lehrman Institute in 2017 and has been twice nominated for the Pulitzer Prize.
His books include The Miracle of Peace: Northern Ireland, John Alderdice, and the Role of Empathy in Politics (in progress); Until the Fires Stopped Burning: 9/11 and New York City in the Words and Experiences of Survivors and Witnesses (Columbia University Press, 2011); and The Fundamentalist Mindset: Psychological Perspective on Religion, Violence, and History (Oxford University Press, 2010).
