Retired FDNY Lt. Gary Howard has serious issues with swallowing and spent this last summer undergoing chemotherapy and radiation at Sloan Kettering for oropharyngeal (mouth) cancer. Unfortunately, after treatments he is now back in Sloan and in need of blood transfusions.
Gary was appointed to Squad 3 in 1970, transferred to Engine 28, Ladder 108, and finally Rescue 2 before his promotion to lieutenant. He was then assigned to Engine 75, Ladder 136 and then back to Rescue 2.
Gary‘s wife Jane has worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering for 45 years. His son Eric is an FDNY firefighter with Ladder 4.
