Groundbreaking for Chatham County 9/11 First Responders Memorial
March 28, 2014 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
On Friday, March 28, 2014 at 1:00pm, a groundbreaking ceremony will be held for the future Chatham County 9/11 First Responders Memorial.
The public is invited. Bring a shovel to be part of the groundbreaking.
The memorial’s centerpiece will be a beam from the former World Trade Center, which will stand on end tilted 9 degrees and 11 minutes facing New York City. Phase 1 of the memorial should be finished by September 2014. The memorial will be located on 15/501 just south of the traffic circle in Pittsboro, across from the Pittsboro Fire Department.
The intent of the memorial is to honor all first responders who have been killed in the line of duty.
The Chatham County 9/11 First Responders Memorial Foundation Corp. is raising all the money for the memorial from donations, grants and the selling of challenge coins. Coins are $15.00 apiece. More details about the memorial and a link to purchase coins can be found here.
