Sketches from Guantanamo – Richmond, VA

September 11, 2014 - November 14, 2014

The exhibit Janet Hamlin: Sketches from Guantanamo will open on Thursday, September 11, 2014 and will be on view through November 21, 2014 in the Lora Robins Gallery of Design from Nature in Richmond.

Janet Hamlin has worked as a courtroom sketch artist at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base tribunals since 2006, documenting the trials of the detainees. Due to security constraints, she views the proceedings either through a glass window or on a split-screen monitor in a separate room.

Since cameras and recording equipment are forbidden in the trials, her drawings form the only visual record of events that have taken place there.
