Seminar – Juan Zarate, “Financing Terrorism”

John Jay’s Friday seminar session continues on Friday, February 13, 2015 at 3:00pm in Room L 2.84 at John Jay Center on Terrorism. The guest will be Juan Zarate, whose discussion is entitled Financing Terrorism.
Juan Zarate is one of a very few real authorities on the financing of terrorism. While he worked in the Treasury Department during the Bush administration, he pioneered new forms of sanctions and other financial instruments to fight terrorism. His most recent book is Treasury’s War: The Unleashing of a New Era of Financial Warfare.
He presently serves as a senior advisor at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). He was the first assistant secretary of the treasury for terrorist financing and financial crimes and played a large role in the global hunt pertaining to Saddam Hussein’s assets. Zarate is also a former federal prosecutor and served on several prosecution teams prior to 9/11, including the investigation into the USS Cole attack.
