Plaque Dedication Honoring Brian Dale and David Kovalcin, American Airlines Flight 11 – North Huntingdon, PA

May 18, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Brian Dale and David Kovalcin will be honored with a plaque at Norwin High School in their home town of North Huntingdon, PA, which will be dedicated on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 9:00am.

Both Kovalcin, 42, and Dale, 43, were passengers aboard American Airlines Flight 11, the first flight hijacked during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. 81 passengers and 11 crew were murdered aboard that flight, which terrorists flew into the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

Both men were family men. David Kovalcin had two children and Brian Dale three. Both men were flying on business on September 11. It is unclear whether they were friends in high school.

The plaque will read “To the First Patriots and Defenders of Freedom Against the Global War on Terrorism September 11th, 2001. In Loving Memory and Heartfelt Appreciation to Brian Dale, Class of 1976 and David Kovalcin, Class of 1977. American Airlines Flight 11. We Will Never Forget.” It will be installed on a bench at the Norwin High School Veterans’ Memorial adjacent to the school.

The ceremony is sponsored by the Norwin Junior Air Force ROTC, who also paid for the plaque.
