Pentagon observance ceremony

September 11, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

The annual Pentagon observance ceremony will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at 9:00am at the Pentagon Memorial in honor of the 184 people killed in the 2001 terrorist attack on the Pentagon and aboard Flight 77.

Invitations have gone out. Due to COVID-19, only family members and survivors of the Pentagon are invited.

Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Army Gen. Mark A. Milley will lead the ceremony.

Press interested in covering the observance must arrive by 7:00am. Due to COVID-19 safety protocols and space restrictions, only 60 reporters may cover the event, therefore, slots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.  Media interested in covering this event must RSVP by 5:00pm EDT on Wednesday, September 8, by contacting Cmdr. Candice Tresch at candice.c.tresch.mil@mail.mil. Please include name, outlet, position, email, phone number and vehicle make, model and license plate number.  Additional logistical details will be provided on September 9 to media covering the event.

The ceremony will livestream on Defense.gov and will have pooled television and print coverage available.
