On Sunday, March 19, 2017, 343 firefighters will ascend the 72 floors of 4 World Trade Center in full firefighting gear in the third annual New York City Firefighter Stair Climb. Each one will climb in honor of one of the 343 FDNY firefighters killed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The climb also memorializes fallen first responders and military personnel worldwide.
The 2017 memorial climb add 60 law enforcement officers climbing to honor the 37 PAPD and 23 NYPD officers killed on September 11, 2001.
The New York City Firefighter Stair Climb is primarily a memorial climb, however, each year they designate a beneficiary and mount a fundraising campaign for that organization. This year’s beneficiary will be Friends of Firefighters.
