Gorman Blood Drive

December 1, 2018 @ 8:00 am - December 31, 2018 @ 5:00 pm

The annual Gorman Blood Drive will be held during the month of December at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Somerset, NJ.

The drive was established to honor Port Authority Police Officer Thomas Gorman, who was killed in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Thomas Gorman was a frequent blood donor, donating last the day before his death. Now the blood drive also honors Tom’s brother, John Gorman, a survivor of the attacks who worked in the World Trade Center. John died of cancer in December 2016 at age 52.

Thomas Gorman’s birthday is December 27, which is one reason for December’s being chosen for the blood drive. Another reason is that the need for blood increases during the holidays and because of the holidays, less blood is donated that month.

The Blood Donor Program at RWJ Somerset is open Monday through Friday. You can make an appointment or walk in. Please call 908-685-2926 in advance to verify times.

To honor Tom and John Gorman by donating blood, please contact Somerset Medical Center Foundation at 908-685-2926 or visit www.RWJUHDonor Club.org.
