Funeral Procession for FDNY Fire Marshal Christopher “Tripp” Zanetis

March 29, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

On Thursday, March 29, 2018, at 11:00am, there will be a processional ceremony led by the FDNY from Engine 28/Ladder 11 to Washington Square Park honoring the life of FDNY Fire Marshal Christopher “Tripp” Zanetis. A reception for family and friends at New York University will follow the ceremony.

All firefighters attending are asked to muster by 10:00am on Fifth Avenue and 12th Street.

Fire Marshal Zanetis, who was also a major in the 106th Rescue Wing of the New York Air National Guard, was killed in the line of duty on March 15, 2018 in a helicopter crash during a mission along the Iraq-Syria border. He was 37 years old.

Fire Marshal Zanetis lived near the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Upon learning of the terrorist attack, Tripp rushed to the site and volunteered until midnight. Because of the people he met, he joined the FDNY in 2004. He served with Engine 28/Ladder 11 before his promotion to Fire Marshal.

Fire Marshal Zanetis will have no wake. His funeral will be held in his hometown in Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Fisher House Foundation, the New York Police & Fire Widows’ & Children’s Benefit Fund, or to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
