Father Mychal Judge Walk of Remembrance
September 10, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 1:00 pm
The annual Father Mychal Judge Walk of Remembrance walk will take place on Sunday, September 10, 2017, starting at the Church of St. Francis of Assisi. As always, the Walk will begin with the saying of the Rosary at 9:00am downstairs at the church with Mass to follow at 9:30am.
The walk itself will begin at 10:30am outside the church. The walk follows the footsteps of Father Mychal Judge on September 11, 2001, as he responded to the terrorist attacks. The walk ends, as ever, at St. Peter’s Church very near the World Trade Center at about 2:00pm. This is the church where Father Mychal Judge’s body was taken.
This year, a special tribute will be paid to Detective Steven McDonald, who died earlier this year, and who was the organizer of the walk since its inception. His widow, Patti, and son, Conor, will lead the walk this year.
Walkers will pause at each firehouse and precinct they pass to pray for the safety of those who work there and to give thanks for the courage of those who gave their lives during and after the attacks.
