The McCourt Memorial Garden honors New London residents Ruth McCourt, 45, and her daughter Julianna Valentine McCourt, 4, who were killed by terrorists aboard United Flight 175 while on their way to Disneyland on September 11, 2001. Ruth was an avid gardener and a member of the New London Garden Club, so the McCourt Memorial Garden is an especially apt tribute.

Stonington native Josh Piver was working at Cantor Fitzgerald on the 105th floor of Tower 1 of the World Trade Center during the 9/11 terrorist attacks. He was 23.
