After a floor collapse in a burning building on June 5, 1998 that killed two firefighters, Captain Timothy Stackpole was burned over more than 30% of his body. He refused a disability pension and came back from catastrophic injury to return to full duty and was promoted to captain in September, 2001. He was killed in the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001. A legendary FDNY officer, he was a devout and devoted family man and father of five.
