Beethoven Rides Again! Free string quartets with Manhattan Youth
December 3, 2012 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Our friends at Manhattan Youth are hosting a free performance of two string quartets on Monday, December 3, 2012 at 7:00pm. Since their Downtown Community Center was flooded during Hurricane Sandy and is still closed, the performance will take place at the Whole Foods Café. Admission is free. All are welcome — come as you are.
This is the third of 14 performances of all the Beethoven string quartets – The Beethoven Cycle – performed free on select Monday evenings from now through May by the Tribeca Chamber Players.
On the program: Beethoven’s String Quartet in C minor, Opus 18 No. 4 and Mozart’s String Quartet in A Major, K. 464 with Amy Mugavero and Orlando Wells on violin, Christine Kim playing the cello, and Jim Hopkins on viola.
The evening will be informal, much like quartet performances in Beethoven’s time, when gatherings of musicians and friends shared music in settings more intimate than modern concert halls.
