9/11 Tribute Center programs are offered throughout the year. Lectures, educational workshops and support programs are available to unite family members who lost loved ones, survivors, Lower Manhattan residents, rescue and recovery workers and volunteers who assisted in the aftermath of 9/11. Retired NYPD Police Officer Mike Vinitsky, formerly of the 71st Precinct, had to retire due to head injuries he received guarding a prisoner.
This summer, Mike suffered a heart attack. On top of this, he has been diagnosed with ALS.
Currently, Mike is hospitalized at Coney Island Hospital. He is using a feeding tube and has a tracheotomy, leaving him unable to speak. His only family is his 80-year-old mother who suffers from Alzheimer’s.
His fellow officers are visiting, and request that people send Mike holiday and/or Christmas cards or notes.
