FF Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Run
September 29, 2019
The beloved FF Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Run will be held this year in NYC on Sunday, September 29, 2019. The starting point is Ikea Parking Lot 9 in Red Hook, Brooklyn.
The route follows Stephen’s footsteps through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel and on to the site of the World Trade Center. The tunnel will be lined with FDNY members with banners showing the 343 firefighters killed at the World Trade Center and other firefighters with American flags. At the finish line, there will food, music, sand sculptures, and children’s activities.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation builds homes for triple and quadruple amputees who were wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan, pays the mortgages of families of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty, and helps in disaster relief in many ways.
Upon learning of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, off-duty FDNY Firefighter Stephen Siller put on all his gear and ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the World Trade Center, where he was killed while working to save others.
