Press conference for extension of Zadroga Act
September 8, 2014 @ 11:15 am - 12:30 pm
On Monday, September 8, 2014 at 11:15am, there will be a press conference to announce the introduction of legislation to extend the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act.
Survivors of the terrorist attacks, rescue and recovery workers and federal lawmakers who led the fight in Congress to pass the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act will gather at 7 World Trade Center to begin the fight to extend it.
The Zadroga bill’s two critical programs providing medical treatment and compensation for those sickened by the attacks – the World Trade Center Health Program and the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund – will expire in October 2016. To continue these programs for 25 more years, the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Reauthorization Act will be introduced in Congress later this month.
More than 30,000 9/11 recovery workers, survivors and area residents and workers have an illness or injury caused by the attacks or their aftermath. More than two-thirds of those have more than one illness. The problem will only grow. The Zadroga Act must be extended.
