PO Melvin Vincent Santiago Memorial Workout
August 16, 2014 @ 7:30 am - 11:30 am
CrossFit Jersey City will host a workout fundraiser for the family of slain Jersey City Police Officer Melvin Santiago on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Liberty State Park’s North Field, next to the September 11th Memorial.
The fundraising goal is $10,000. So far, CrossFit NJ has raised 82% of this goal.
Officer Melvin Vincent Santiago was 23 years old and new to the JC Police Department when he was gunned down on July 13, 2014.
Participants need to register onsite at 7:30am on Saturday to receive their heat assignments and partners. The workout will begin at 8:30am and continue for about three hours.
The first part of the workout is a 2,650-meter row. (2650 was Officer Santiago’s shield number.) Next will be 6 rounds (because he served for 6 months) of 7 dead lifts, followed by 13 box jumps and 14 burpees (7/13/14 being Officer Santiago’s end of watch date).
