Brooke Jackman Foundation’s 1st Brooke’s Cooks Event

July 31, 2014 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

The first Brooke’s Cooks event will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at 11:00am at the St. Nick’s Alliance in Williamsburg.

The Brooke Jackman Foundation started the  Brooke’s Cooks program to promote literacy, learning and healthy living among NYC-area, at-risk children and their families through readings, nutritional workshops and cooking demonstrations.

Approximately 30 families with children aged 5 to 12 will participate in the first event. After discussions about healthy, seasonal eating, children will make and enjoy a salad with vegetables they pick and prepare. As always at the Brooke Jackman Foundation, there will be books, with readings from Soup Day by Melissa Iwei and Salad People by Molly Katzen. Each child will receive a copy of Salad People and recipes to take home.

Brooke’s Cooks is partnering with Spoons Across America.

The next Brooke’s Cooks event will be Thursday, October 9, 2014 in Washington Heights. Another event is being planned for November. For more information, please visit their website.

The Brooke Jackman Foundation honors Brooke Jackman, an avid reader who aspired to become a social worker to help children. She was killed in the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center at the age of 23.
