Photo exhibit of USS New York – “Sailing into Harbor”
May 23, 2013 @ 10:00 am - May 30, 2013 @ 5:00 pm
A photo exhibit called “Sailing into Harbor” can be seen at the Jadite Gallery in New York through Thursday, May 30, 2013.
The photos were taken aboard the USS New York by photographer C.R. Richardson, the only civilian media member allowed onboard as the ship sailed from Norfolk to NYC for Fleet Week 2011. Special guests onboard the USS New York at that trip were September 11th family members and recovery workers from the World Trade Center.
The USS New York was named for the victims of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. Its hull contains seven tons of steel salvaged from the Twin Towers after their collapse. Sister ship USS Arlington, commissioned this spring, honors those murdered on American Airlines Flight 77 and at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. Soon to be commissioned USS Somerset honors those crew members and passengers aboard United Flight 93, who fought back against the terrorists, crashing in Somerset County, PA.
The USS New York photos are now on display at the Jadite Gallery at 413 West 50th Street in Hell’s Kitchen. The exhibit ends May 30, 2013.
