The 12th annual Christopher A Santora Educational Scholarship Dinner Dance will be held on Friday, June 14, 2013 from 7:00pm to 12:00am at Riccardo’s by the Bridge in Astoria.
Battalion Chief Jack Joyce and Battalion Chief Richard Salem will be honored as Men of the Year.

FF Christopher Santora was a popular teacher and history buff who believed passionately in education. Scholarships that bear his name go to the winners of an annual essay contest. He was 23 and had been an FDNY fireman (his lifelong dream, following in his father’s footsteps) only 2 months on September 11, 2001.

The 12th annual Deputy Chief Ray Downey Forever Running Memorial 5-K Run/Walk will be held on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 16, 2013. The 5-K run, 5-K walk takes place at 10:00am and the Kids’ Fun Run will begin at 9:30am.
Online registration is available here. You may also register via a form, which is available here. Pre-registration should be done by June 13, 2013 and is strongly encouraged. The registration fee for the 5-K is $20.00 for an adult; $15.00 for children (K-12) in advance. Fees on run day are $25.00 per person. The Kids’ Fun Run is free. The fee for the barbeque only is $20.00 in advance; $25.00 on the day.

Deputy Chief Ray Downey, one of the most decorated officers in FDNY history, and an expert in building collapse, was killed in the line of duty on September 11, 2001 while commanding the FDNY Special Operations Command. The charity in his name supports a number of worthy causes.
The course is fast and flat, and follows D.C. Raymond M. Downey Memorial Road. The course is USATF-certified and sanctioned.

The 5-K honoring FF Jeff Giordano will be held on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at Mt. Loretto on Staten Island. The race starts at 9:00am, with the free Kids’ Run beginning at 10:15am. Jeff’s Run is the second leg of the James Halverson Memorial Award.
Online registration is available here. To learn more about the event, please click here. The fee for an adult to run is $25.00. If you register online, there is a $3.25 processing fee added on. All proceeds will go to the Firefighter Jeff Giordano Children’s Playroom at the Cornell Burn Center.
Jeff Giordano, a decorated FDNY firefighter, husband and father of three, was also an avid runner. He was the Vice President of the New York Firefighters’ Burn Center Foundation and was instrumental in creating the Children’s Playroom at the Cornell Burn Center which was named for him after he was killed in the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001.
Contributions to Jeff’s Run and other activities have enabled the FF Jeff Giordano Children’s Playroom to implement many programs to aid children with burn injuries. Activities such as Dances with Wood, art and music therapy, CampPhoenix and burn survivor support groups have helped many burned children.

The twelfth annual Lt. Joe Gullickson Memorial Picnic will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2013, from 12:00pm to 6:00pm at Nansen’s Park on Staten Island.
There will be games, softball, volleyball, basketball, bocci ball, a playground, horseshoes, activities, prizes and a raffle drawing for $2,500.00. Great food and drink too.
The fee to attend is $40.00 per adult; $10.00 per child aged 6-14 and free for children under 6. Proceeds fund the Gullickson-McGuire Memorial Schoarship.
Lt. Joseph Gullickson of FDNY Ladder 101 gave his life on September 11, 2001.
