Lectures, educational workshops and support programs are available to unite family members who lost loved ones, survivors, Lower Manhattan residents, rescue and recovery workers and volunteers who assisted in the aftermath of 9/11. Weathersfield, CT has lit Christmas Eve luminarias for 39 years. Again this year, the Keane Foundation is selling luminaria kits to make it easy to participate in this beautiful tradition. Kits include a 14-hour candle, special bag, and instructions. Each kit is $1.50. All funds raised will support the Keane Foundation 9/11 Memorial Sports Center, which honors Richard “Dick” Keane, who was killed in the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001 in Tower 1 of the World Trade Center. Somerset Medical Center in NJ is holding the annual PO Tom Gorman Memorial Blood Drive throughout the month of December at the Somerville hospital to honor Port Authority Police Officer Thomas Gorman, a regular blood donor at the hospital who was killed saving others during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation is hosting a bone marrow drive for Owen Hogan, FF Jimmy Martinez, and everyone who needs a bone marrow transplant on Saturday, December 14, 2013, from 9:00am-4:00pm at the Tunnel to Towers Hurricane Relief Center on Staten Island. 2-year-old Owen Hogan, son of FDNY firefighter Tim Hogan of Engine 216, has aplastic anemia, a bone marrow disorder in which bone marrow stops producing blood cells.
