9/11 Tribute Center programs are offered throughout the year. Lectures, educational workshops and support programs are available to unite family members who lost loved ones, survivors, Lower Manhattan residents, rescue and recovery workers and volunteers who assisted in the aftermath of 9/11. In the spring of 2014, Chris Waltenburg is hiking the Appalachian Trail (at the age of 60) to support the Brent Woodall Foundation for Exceptional Children. The hike will cover more than 2,000 miles and will raise more than $10,000 for autistic children. Twelve (12) Educational Awards worth $500.00 each are available through the New York Firefighter’s Burn Center Foundation. The grants honor FF Michael V. FDNY firefighter Daniel O’Shea, 38, of Engine 316 is urgently in need of a kidney donation. FF O’Shea has been diagnosed with iGa nephropathy. This is not currently a disease that has been officially linked to the World Trade Center site after the terrorist attacks, but as his family has no history of the disease, it is possible that his work at the site is responsible for his illness.
