Students’ 9/11 memorial plan gets boost from bank via banker’s friendship with James Hobin

Students from Griswold Connecticut have spent two years designing and raising funds for a September 11th memorial at their school.

Recently, they were given a $5,000 donation by a banker inspired to give by his friendship with James Hobin, who was on the 99th floor of the North Tower at Marsh & McLennan when the terrorists attacked. Marsh lost 295 employees in the attacks.

Kevin Merchant, Hobin’s friend, donated $1,000 of his own money and arranged for the $5,000 donation from Jewett City Savings Bank, where he is CEO, reports Janice Steinhagen for the NY Daily News.

The children are working towards a September 11, 2019 dedication of the memorial.
