Queens Firefighter Robert Tilearcio — who fought for Zadroga Act — dies at 58 of 9/11-linked tumor

Firefighter Robert Tilearcio fought for the extension of the Zadroga Act while fighting a 9/11-related brain tumor, reports Thomas Tracy in the New York Daily News. Tilearcio died yesterday of his illness at the age of 58, leaving a wife and two children, one of whom, Robert, just took the FDNY test.

After many months of work from rescue and recovery workers, the Zadroga Act was extended in December 2015. Now, largely due to FF Tilearcio’s work, Zadroga healthcare coverage for those sickened by their selfless work after the 9/11 attacks will extend until 2090.
