Proposed subway elevators near Stock Exchange raise residents’ fears

Residents of two Broad Street buildings  – 15 and 30 Broad Street – are afraid a proposed bank of subway elevators there could make their homes terrorist targets, while the MTA cites there is great need for elevators for the subway, reports Carl Glassman in the Tribeca Trib.

The proposed elevators would stand on diagonal corners of Broad Street and Exchange Place.

A petition signed by many residents has been submitted to Community Board 1 claiming that the elevators would give potential suicide bombers access to the area near the NY Stock Exchange and the glass towers encasing them could turn to shrapnel in the event of an attack.
